Things - Niin se mietittiin

In our randomly appearing series "Both Sides Now" we now present the flipside of yesterday's Paula Koivuniemi's single. It was called "Niin se mietittiin" (That's the way it was figured out) and like the "A.i.e" this song has also fallen in oblivion. Which is sad, becouse it's one fine catchy pop tune. The original song was written and performed by entertainer legend Bobby Darin (b. Walden Robert Perciville Cassotto) in his country days in 1962. This "Things" was also big country chart hit for him. The song became even more popular in 1967, when performed by Dean Martin and Nancy Sinatra.

Updated on 14.09.2010; added the first Finnish version "Kurkkija oot" (Snooper you) by Katri Helena and Matti Paalosmaa.

Here's the triplet:

Well, didn't even remember Paula's version, but another version also vanished in oblivion... (presumably of me being big admirer of Katri Helena) She did duet basing Sinatra's version in 1969. It was B-side of her "Ei kauniimpaa" (Top-38) single and also title song of her album in the same year. Song was called "Kurkkija oot" and she was dueting with apparently one timer Matti Paalosmaa, for me unknown and ever since heard name in Finnish music busines. Or he may be the one who hosted "jokamiehen lista" in Yleisradio at 70's. At that time Katri's voice was very fresh and breezy... If you find it, I recommend to listen that one. Well, looks like I begin to write a novel, so I better stop now...
Once again, many thanks for your great blog!!!!!

I had forgotten about that. I have this Katri Helena & Matti recording somewhere and I publish it in no time. Matti really was the "Lista" -man, and you can easily recognize his voice on the record. In case if you ever happened to listen to "Lista", of course ...
I have many of Katri's forgotten gems from 60's and 70's and they will be presented someday.
