Boom Bang-a-Bang - Boom bang-a-bang

Lisbeth was a young girl who recorded "Boom bang-a-bang" in 1969. Nothing more is known about her. She recorded just this one single, with a cover of Beatles' "Your Mother Should Know" on the flipside. "Boom Bang-a-Bang" was the United Kingdom entry to the ESC 1969, performed by Lulu (b. Marie Lawrie) It was the joint winner with three other entries; Spain, Netherlands and France. The single made number 2 in the UK singles charts and was a major hit throughout Europe. BTW, for some reason, the song was included on a blacklist of banned songs issued by the BBC during the 1991 Gulf War.

Come September - Kahden ollaan

OK, so September has come. Here's a happy song that will cheer you up. Jarkko & Laura (see previous entry) recorded "Kahden ollaan" (We're twosome) in 1969. It is a wonder that it wasn't a hit becouse it is that kind of melodic, happy tune that Finns usually love. And, on top of that, lyrics are done by Juha Vainio. The original song was called "Come September" and it was one of the 5 Lulu's entries in the UK Public National Final for Eurovision Song Contest 1969. (It placed 3rd, and the winner was 'Boom Bang-a-Bang that tied the first prize in the ESC). Lulu (b. Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie) is a Scottish singer-songwriter, actress, model and television personality, who has been successful in the entertainment business from the 1960s through to the present day. She is now officially known as Lulu Kennedy-Cairns, and in 2000 she was awarded an OBE by the Queen.

Me, The Peaceful Heart - Kysyn vain

Kristiina Hautala (see previous entry) recorded only 22 songs during her short but successful pop singer career in the end of sixties. One of those was "Kysyn vain" (I just ask), a single released in 1968. The original song "Me, The Peaceful Heart" was a biggish hit in 1968 for Scottish songstress Lulu (real name Marie MacDonald McLaughlin Lawrie) and written by Tony Hazzard who has been finnpicked before, see here. Lulu's first hit was "Shout" in 1964, when she was only 15 and performing with his backing group The Luvvers. She later launched a solo career and was joint-winner of the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest with "Boom-Bang-a-Bang". Lulu also sang the title song for the James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun" in 1974. In recent years we have seen Lulu on television, e.g. in the 'Absolutely Fabulous' -series.
