On the B-side of the Tapani Perttu's "Nooakin Arkki" (finnpicked here) in 1970 was this "Vaarin humpappa" (Granpa's oom-pah-pah). The lyics were written by Kari Tuomisaari and the arrangement was provided by Jaakko Salo. The original song "Le Chemin De Papa" (Papa's way) was written and performed by Joe Dassin. It was released on his album "Les Champs-Elysées" in 1969. You can see him perform the song on French television, here.
You may have thought that I had gorgotten about the most definitive song about Nathalie. No way! Here's the one, entitled of course "Nathalie", interpreted in Finnish in 1969 by Tapani Perttu. This is the song Tapani is best known for. The original was written and sung by French superstar Gilbert Bécaud. He was known as "Monsieur 100,000 Volts" for his energetic performances. His best-known hit probably is this "Nathalie". Becaud has been finnpicked earlier, see here.
The actor and singer Tapani Perttu (see earlier entry) recorded "Isabelle" in 1974. It was never released as a single (a pity), and it was just a track on his album "Ootko yksin sä nyt". Tapani was kind of "specialist" in recording covers of powerful French ballads. This was one of those, a song written and originally performed by Charles Aznavour. Aznavour calls "Isabelle" "a lyrical song about a girl with a very sweet name". He recorded it for his album Aznavour 65 and it has become one of his most popular love songs. In 1998, Charles Aznavour was chosen as "Entertainer of the Century" by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan.
Tapani Perttu (see earlier entry) had his great breakthrough with the cover of Gilbert Becaud's "Nathalie" in 1969. On the B-side of that single was "Leikkimajan aikaan" (In the days of the playhouse). Like so many B-sides. it is now completely forgotten, but still a fine piece of music. The original "One Two Three O`Leary" was a Top 10 UK hit in 1969 for Des O`Connor. Des is an English television personality and talkshow host. Although his singing ability has been criticized frequently, he has done a successful career as a singer, recording 36 albums, four of which reached the Top 30 charts. "One Two Three O`Leary" is an old game rhyme used in childrens' ball-bouncing games.
Now it's time to present a song that tells about the oldest ship in the world - the Noah's Ark. Finnish actor and singer Tapani Perttu recorded "Nooakin arkki" (Noah's ark) in 1970 and had a minor single hit with it. Perttu started his singing career already in 1962 performing schlager under pseudonym Perttu Kari. His breakthrough happened in 1969, when he recorded a cover of Gilbert Beccaud's 'Nathalie". For the most of his career, Tapani has been resident actor in the Theater of Tampere and he is often used as a voice-over artist in animations. This song is not religious or biblical, but treats Noah's Ark as a symbol for change and hope for better times. As did the original, that was written and performed by Italian Sergio Endrigo and called "L'Arca Di Noé" (Noah's ark). In the lyrics the protagonist comperes his ship to Noah's ark becouse it's manned by "dog, the cat, me and you". Sergio was among the most popular and appreciated songwriters of Italy. He won the 1968 Sanremo Festival and finished third in 1970 with this 'Ark song'.
