A Good Thing Going - Menee mikä menee

The brothers whose first names vere Jouko and Kosti and family name Saari made their breakthrough in 1968 when their first single was a big hit. Their second single in 1969 was "Menee mikä menee" (What goes, goes). The singing style of the brothers was not far from other popular duos of the 60's - Walker Brothers and our Swedish neighbours Tom & Mick. It was quite unique in Finland those days and the Saari Brothers had considerable success in the end of 60's and in the beginning of 70's. Also a third brother Paavo joined them for awhile. However, the popularity diminished and they stopped gigging and recording in 1979. The original tune "A Good Thing Going" was an obscure track from Engelbert Humperdinck (b. Arnold George "Gerry" Dorsey). Gerry was born in India, but migrated to UK in the 40's. He started his recording career already in the 50's but rose to fame in 1967 when manager George Mills adviced him to adopt a more showy name of the famous German opera composer Engelbert Humperdinck as his stage name.

Here's the pair:

  1. Mistään ei tunnu löytyvän Joukon ja Kostin levyttämän, Parhaimmat muistot, kappaleen alkuperäistä versiota, Many the memories.
Kuulin sen kerran radiosta ja vaikutti ihan hyvältä.

Näin on marjat,(Bye bye baby), kappaleen kohdalla tilanne on juuri päin vastoin.
Joukon ja Kostin versio on tosi harvinainen.

  2. Tuo 'Many The Memories" on käsittääkseni alunperin irlantilaisen Real McCoy -yhtyeen kappale. Minulla oli se jo tähtäimessä, mutta on sittemmin kadonnut. Mutta ehkä joskus ...

  3. Hei,

Mikä aarre tämä kappale, what a treasure ! Olen etsinyt tuota

Se ilmestyi "The Way It Used To Be" ('Se päivä tulee kerran'/Fredi) -hittisinglen B-puolella ja sen takia varmaan jäänyt unholaan.

  5. It's also released on album "Engelbert" DECCA LK 4985, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ENGELBERT-HUMPERDINCK-ENGELBERT-LP-RARER-UK-MONO-EX-/350368596065 - originally from 1969, with same picture, as in single (with red background). You can find it re-released as CD, how easily, I don't know...

  6. I don't believe this Good thing
going can be found on any CD.
It's missing from Spotify as well.
By anyway, I can't start this song
from this page either. I've been
trying for months. Some of the
newer songs play ok. Why ?
